Sen. Keller Named "Conservationist of the Year"
By Karen Berry , WheatRidge, Jun 15 2006.

State Senator Maryanne "Moe" Keller (D) was recently honored by the Jefferson Conservation District and the Upper South Platte Watershed Association with its annual "Conservationist of the Year" award in recognition of over ten years of conservation leadership in the Colorado Statehouse.

Karen Berry, President of the Upper South Platte Watershed Association, stated, "Senator Keller's commitment to
natural resource conservation is significant. Through her work in the legislature, she has helped ensure that the county's natural resources will be protected for generations to come." Senator Keller, a member of the Joint Budget Committee, was instrumental in securing funding for the local share of the cost of federal grant programs designed to improve forest and watershed health and reduce wildland fires throughout the county.

The mission of the Jefferson Conservation District is to enhance the quality of life for all citizens by sensibly managing our diverse natural resources, educating citizens to be wise stewards of the land, and by providing quality technical information.

The district's governing board is comprised of local citizens who volunteer to represent landowners, educators, businesses, and all citizens in the district.
